Session 9 SEE YOURSELF AS GOD SEES YOU

God created man and saw that he was EXCELLENT.

Things that destroy our self-image:

     ·       EVOLUTION

-       “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” (Romans 1:20)

-       Evolution “Theory” contradicts Scientific “Law”

·       Comparison

-       The mirror of comparison is like an amusement park mirror – it is TWISTED.

-       INSECURITY and discontentedness comes from comparison.

·       Bad experiences

-       B ABIES can feel rejection from the womb because their brain and feelings are formed from the third week.

-       People’s WORDS (jokes, making fun, nicknames) and attitudes about what’s beautiful or acceptable and what’s not can contribute to self-rejection.

-       When someone we respect, like another person who has qualities (physical, mental, etc.) that we don’t, it sends a message:  “If you’re beautiful and have certain qualities – then I’ll love you.”  So we act like someone or something else to be accepted.  This is a false concept based on what others think of us – it’s not how God sees us.

          -       Since God is perfect, and He accepts you, why do you care if other IMPERFECT people don’t accept you?

-       God says to us, “I’m with you, then who can be against you?”

Made Unique by God – A Proper Self-Image

·       God Created every Person in His IMAGE

“For You created my inmost being; you knit me together in my      mother’s womb.” (Psalm 139:13)

·       God Makes Only the HIGHEST Quality Creations

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your         works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (Psalm 139:14)

·       God Only CREATES “One of a Kinds”

“My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret      place.  When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,”

     (Psalm 139:15)

·       God Creates You So Only You Can Fulfil Your DESTINY

“Your eyes saw my unformed body.  All the days ordained for me     were written in your book before one of them came to be.”

     (Psalm 139:16)

Session 8 HOW TO BE FREE

Jesus is your Deliverer

-       Jesus came to save and heal, but He also came to destroy the works of the devil (1John 3:8)

-       What is bounding you? (Luke 13:10-16)

You can be a child of the King but still have things that God needs to set free in your life.

-       What does Jesus need to clean from you temple? (John 2:13; 1 Cor. 6:18-19)

The enemies of God’s People

-       The feud begins: Revelation 12:17; 20:7-10; Eph 6:12

-       Satan’s Army organized by rank

Lucifer (son of the morning- Is 14:12-21; Ezekiel 28:1-19)

Satan has limitations:

1.    Not omniscient: can’t read out thoughts.

2.    Not omnipotent: his power is limited

3.    Not omnipresent: can’t be anywhere at once (1 Peter 5:8)

4.    He is a very powerful spiritual being, far more powerful than any of us by ourselves. (2 Kings 19:35)

5.    It we submit to God, Satan can be resisted, and then he will leave (James 4:7).

Principality: Daniel 10:10-21- princes in the demonic world who control regions.

Powers:

Rulers: Spiritual forces of evil

-       There is an unseen world that influences our world.

What does it mean to have a demon?

“Too often people refer to people with demons as being demon possessed.  In actuality they are “demonized”.  In other words, they have a demon.  They are not owned by that demon, but the demon has strong ground in their lives and can take over at times.”

 Demonic influence in our lives:

 1.  Bondages (Luke 13:16)

- chains or ties that the enemy puts on us that will not allow us to advance in our

Christian life.

- pride, self-sufficiency and a religious spirit are Satan’s weapon to keep people

in bondage.

2.  Strongholds (2 Cor 10-4-5)

- usually a wrong pattern of thinking or unrepentant thought that blocks the heart from seeing the truth.

“The Spirit of the Lord is on me because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor.  He sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight to the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.” ( Luke 4:18-19)

Two main ways that Satan gain entrance into the believer’s life:

          Illegal Intrusion

Legal intrusion (Eph 4:27; Rom 6)

How does a person become dominated/oppressed by a demon?

A.   Sin -  willful and continual disobedience to God

(John 8:33-36; Romans 6:15-19; 8:5-8)

Ex. Idolatry (Deut 27:15, Ex 20:4-5)

Dishonoring parents (Eph 6:1-2, Eph 6:13, Prov. 20:20)

Illicit sexual relationships (1 Cor. 6:9)

Injustice to the handicapped and the lame (Deut 27:17-19)

To trust of put confidence on the flesh (Jer. 17:5, Rom 3:20)

To steal, perjury and false witness

(Zech 5:1-4; Mal 3:8; Deut 11:26)

Spoken curses on the servants of God (Heb 13:17,Deut 11:26)

                     Unforgiveness and bitterness (Matt 18:23-35)

Judgmental or critical spirit (Matt 7:1-5)

B.   Emotional wounds (and our response of unforgiveness, bitterness, revenge, etc(Heb 2:15)

C.   Generational curses(Ex 20;5; 2 Samuel 21)

D.   Self-imposed curses

E.   Occult: Acts 19:19 Occult practice, objects and literature

F.    Spoken curses by parents (Gen 9:24-25) by third parties.

How can we be free?

a.  Don’t be afraid!

God’s power is limited and all demonic spirits will submit to Jesus. (1 John 4:4; Rom 8:13; Ps 27:1)

b.  Recognizes the specific root of the bondage (which is sin, wounds, generational, spoken curse, self-imposed curses and occult practice) and give it to Jesus. Eph 5:11

What about the dark areas of your life? Satan governs the darkness.

Every unconfessed sin is an area of darkness.  We must be transparent to experience God’s deliverance.  In fact, we will only be set free to the degree that we are willing to be transparent.

c.   Ask God for forgiveness for all these sins

d. Renounce the sin- not only confessing it but removing it from your life. (2Cor. 4:2)

e. Cry out to God with a repentant heart and believe that God’s Spirit will come to your temple and you will experience His deliverance. (Ps 118:10-20, James 4:7)

Session 5 GODLY SEXUALITY: The Importance of Sex

Sex Is a Good Creation of God

 ·       God created sex within the context of MARRIAGE.

“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he   created him; male and female he created them.  God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.” (Genesis 1:27-28)

 ·       It is good and BEAUTIFUL – not shameful or gross.

“May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. A loving doe and a graceful deer – may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be captivated by her love.”     (Proverbs 5:18-19)

Outside of Marriage Sex Is a Sin

·       Sex before Marriage…

·       Adultery…

·       Orgies

·       Homosexuality…

…are all SINS that God will judge.

“Marriage should be honoured by all and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral.”

 (Hebrews 13:4; see also 1 Corinthians 6:9-11)

 Sex Unifies

“Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator       made them male and female, and said for this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife and the two will become one flesh?  So they are no longer two, but one.  Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” (Matthew 19:46)

 ·       Sex is Union by a Man and Woman on three levels:

-       Physical – the actual ACT of making love.

-       Emotional – the bond of love HEIGHTENS the act because the act is motivated by an unselfish desire to serve and please your husband or wife.

-       Spiritual – since God ORDAINED sex as an act designed for only two people.

 Consequences of Sex Before Marriage

 - “Do you not know that your bodies are member of Christ himself?  Shall I then take them and unite them with a prostitute?  Never!  Do you not know that he who unites himself with a prostitute is one with her in body?  For it is said, ‘The two will become one flesh.’  But he who unites himself with the Lord is one with him in spirit.  Flee from sexual immorality.  All other sins a man commits are outside his body, but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.  Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God?  You are not your own, you were bought with a price.  Therefore honor God with your body.” - (1 Corinthians 6:15-20).

     ·       Soul Ties - Soul ties are very STRONG and affect your actions.

·       Pregnancy – (2 Samuel 11:3-5)

·       Sexually Transmitted Diseases – (Mark 3:10)

·       Abortion (murder) – (Exodus 20:13)

·       Sinning Against your Own Body – (1 Corinthians 6:18-20)

·       The wrath and judgment of God – (Hebrews 13:4)

 Sins of a Sexual Nature

·       Lust – impure thoughts and desire for SOMEONE other than your spouse.

·       Sexual Fantasies – REHEARSING sexual acts in your mind that are not with your spouse

·       Pornography – media that CONTAINS sexual acts and nudity

·       Masturbation – selfish-gratification

“You have heard that it was said, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I tell          you that anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already    committed adultery with her in his heart.” (Matthew 5:27-28; see also        Ezekiel 20:30, Proverbs 6:25, 1 John 2:16)

God Wants Total Purity

 ·       Mental - “…if anything is excellent or praise-worthy – THINK about such things.” (Philippians 4:8)

 ·       Emotional - “not in passionateLUST like the heathen who do not know God.”

(1 Thessalonians 4:5)

 ·       Spiritual - “For God did not CALL us to be impure, but to live a holy life.”

(1 Thessalonians 4:7)

 ·       Physical - “FLEE from sexual immorality…” (1 Corinthians 6:18)

Being Made Pure In the Eyes of God

    ·       Repent for Any SEXUAL sins

“Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.” (Acts 3:19)

    ·       Receive FORGIVENESS

“…I will frown on you no longer, for I am merciful, declares the Lord, I will not be angry forever.” (Jeremiah 3:12)

·       Receive the FREEDOM Only Jesus can Give

“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36)

     ·       God DESIRES to Heal Your Body – Mind & Spirit

“Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits – who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. (Psalm 103:2-5)

 ·       Walk in Purity – Go and SIN No More

“…Then neither do I condemn you, Jesus declared, Go now and     leave your life of sin.” (John 8:11)

      ·       Maintain SCRIPTURAL Guidelines for Marital Relations

“But since there is so much immorality, each man should have his own wife, and each woman her own husband.  The husband should fulfil his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband.  The wife’s body does not belong to her alone but also to her husband.  In the same way, the husband’s body does not belong to him alone but also to his wife. Do not deprive each other except by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer.  Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

(1 Corinthians 7:2-5)

    ·       Avoid TEMPTATION

“…Now flee from your youthful lusts…” (2 Timothy 2:22)

·       Guard Your Eyes and HEART (and everything else)

“I made a covenant with my eyes not to look lustfully at a girl.” (Job 31:1)

“Above all else, guard your heart for it is the wellspring of life.” (Proverbs 4:23)

 ·       Get IMMERSED in God!!

Session 4 MEDIA THAT WILL DESTROY YOUR MIND

The Purpose of Media

·       TV, movies, music, books, etc. are all media that can stimulate and manipulate.

-       Media serves as a vehicle of COMMUNICATION (neutral) for information or entertainment

-       Media can STIMULATE your emotions and senses.

 -       Media can MANIPULATE your mind to influence your actions.

·       How does media stimulate and manipulate us?

-       Messages:  both direct and subliminal can come to us through media, either positively or negatively

 -       Direct:no hidden messages, no backward masking.

 -       Subliminal:messages that can be hidden in the BACKGROUND to affect the subconscious.

 -       Spirit:  Spirits influence spirits or a better was to say it isATTITUDES influence attitudes.

 Three Levels of Media:

·       Positive Media:  Honors and TEACHES Godly values; is explicitly Christian.

 ·       Neutral Media:  Does not necessarily PROMOTE Christian values but does not tear down or offer destructive material.

 ·       Negative Media:  The direct media is totally CONTRARY to Christian faith and values.

The Importance of Choosing Media that Brings Life

-       “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.  Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me – put it into practice.  And the God of peace will be with you. (Philippians 4:8-9)

Five Reasons Why It is Important to Make Wise Media Choices

-       To guard your MIND from thoughts contrary to those of Christ Jesus.

-       To guard your SPIRIT from values contrary to those of Christ Jesus.

-       To guard your BODY from practicing in acts that has been influenced by media.

-       To guard your SOUL from eternal punishment caused by the thoughts of mind and spirit that caused the body to participate in sin.

-       To guard your RELATIONS (wife, family, friends) from being destroyed.

How Can I Make Wise Choices For My Media?

-       “Everything is permissible for me – but not everything is beneficial.  Everything is permissible for me – but I will not be mastered by anything” (1 Corinthians 6:12)

 -       Nothing is prohibited, but the boundary is that not all things are BENEFICIAL

 -       We don’t want to be DOMINATED by anything.

 -       This is not saying get rid of all MEDIA.

 -       Do not COMPROMISE your standard!

 -       “Do not love the world or anything in the world.  If anyone loves the world, then the love of the Father is not in him.”  (1 John 2:15)

Do not be Influenced by Popular Opinion

               - “What does the believer have in common with an unbeliever?”

        (2 Corinthians 6:15)

 -       “Since we have these promises, dear friends, let us purify ourselves from everything that contaminates body and spirit, perfecting holiness our reverence for God.” (2 Corinthians 7:1)

Ask Questions Based on Your Standards.

-       Ask if we should watch or listen to it.

 -       Ask “Would Jesus watch, listen to, surf, what I’m about to observe?”

 -       Does this edify (build up) my life?

 -       Do I have a better relationship with God because of it?

 -       Would I do what the people in the movie are doing or in a song singing about?

 -       Could I play or watch this on Sunday Morning in church in front of everyone

     there?
